Osmonds and the Idol

Yes, it's true, last night at the Osmond 2G Christmas concert in Salt Lake City, American Idol runner-up David Archuletta joined Michael, Nathan, Douglas, David, Scott, Jon, and Tyler Osmond onstage for a trio of numbers. Official photos will be coming soon, but in the meantime, here are a few someone posted over at YouTube for you to check out.

The Secret is Out!

During last's nights Osmond Second Generation Concert, David let the cat out of the bag. He and Valerie are expecting a GIRL about four months from now. Congratulations to the two of them.

Alan Osmond and his siblings celebrated 50 years in show business this year. Now his sons are taking center stage for a Christmas charity concert tomorrow. We talked with the brothers during rehearsals this week.

You know the voices, the faces, the name Osmond -- plus a generation. They are Alan and Suzanne's sons. Douglas, David, Nathan, Mike, Tyler, Scott and John are rehearsing for a new variety show. They told us it's in the genes.

"[We've] done Christmas shows together with our dad, his brothers, Marie; and we'd never done one by ourselves. So we did it last year, had a great time with it, and wanted to do it again," David said.

All of this talent has come together for more than a party. They're raising money for a good cause. Proceeds from the concert will go to The MORE Project, a charity that helps impoverished children in Brazil, where John served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"I saw families where their homes were just basically made out of plastic; plastic for walls, kind of to break the wind. So anything that we can do to help people in that type of situation, we're all about that," John said.

They grew up on the Osmond Christmas shows, an American tradition. The brothers say they hope to make theirs an annual event.

"We wanna continue that now. So, it's kind of like the new show in town, and yet it's something that's been around for 50 years," Douglas said.

There are actually eight brothers. Alex is not performing because he's serving an LDS mission in Atlanta.

Project, a charity dedicated to changing lives and restoring families living in extreme poverty in Brazil.

The Osmonds 2nd Generation consists of eight brothers (the sons of Alan Osmond, the oldest of the original performing group) who have over 25-years of television and stage experience to their credit. They were discovered by the late Bob Hope who gave them their first national television appearance on his Christmas show in 1986. They have won Best Performance Group of the Year three years running in Branson, and have been inducted into the Branson Hall of Fame. Record sales in Europe recognized three of their songs in the Top 40. They spent two years traveling with the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Still going strong and better than ever, the group returns to the Holiday Season with a stage show that's all their own, with the same tight harmonies, and colorful production that has always been a family tradition.

Osmond 2G Concert This Saturday

By Robert Walsh Mormon Times Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008
Scott Osmond and his brothers are starting to feel a lot like Christmas.

Osmond, along with Michael, Nathan, Doug, David, John and Tyler, will perform Nov. 29 in the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City for their second annual "A Family Christmas With the Osmonds 2nd Generation" show.

"We all make sure we're in Utah at Christmas time," Scott Osmond said in a telephone interview. "We love to get together to harmonize."

So the group, known as 2ndG, will make that harmony at a Christmas concert that will benefit the MORE Project, dedicated to helping disadvantaged children and families in Brazil. About 75 percent of the ticket sales will go to the project, Osmond said.

Alan Osmond's eight sons have grown up performing in a variety of venues, including the touring company of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." They have also performed in Branson, Mo., for several years and done national and world tours.

The eighth member of 2ndG, Alex, is currently serving a Mormon mission in Georgia. His six older brothers have also served missions -- Michael in Denmark, Nathan in Chile, Doug in South Africa, David in Spain, Scott in Paraguay and John in Brazil. The youngest brother, Tyler, 18, is getting ready for a mission, Scott Osmond said. All eight brothers are Eagle Scouts, Osmond added, and he's currently a Scoutmaster.

The concert will feature music from several genres, with some barbershop, some a cappella and some more up-tempo songs.

Tickets, which cost from $17 to $29.50, are available through the band's Web site, www.osmond.com/2ndG/ and www.arttix.org.

"We decided at the last minute to do the concert again," Osmond said. "We hope to create a tradition."

My Thoughts --- Message from Alan

It is early in the morning and I felt prompted to get up and share something really important.

Our world is facing many changes with trying times, questioning God, New
government leadership, lowering of moral standards, seeking glory and the
things of the world and desires for Money, Money, Money!

I want to share with you my feelings about "What's going to happen to ME?" Scriptures are being fulfilled and as we make life's decisions. How about you? Ask yourself . . . Who do you Trust?

I helped my brothers write an album called "The Plan." The Plan of Life! I am writing another album called "The Way." The way back to God. The answer is . . . "He is the Way!" Jesus Christ!

Here is my favorite scripture that teaches us:

"Trust NOT in the "arm of Flesh. Lean Not unto thine own understanding. In ALL thy WAYS acknowledge HIM, and HE shall direct thy path."

It is time! You have the power to choose. The Lord is coming back soon. Yes, even the angels don't know when . . . but, the signs are coming forth. Do you fear Man? Or, do you fear God?
Ask HIM!

Alan

Marie Osmond's Show To Be Produced From Las Vegas

Photo: TVT

“I finally feel I’m home,” said Marie Osmond when she talked to me for the first time about her new extended contract to headline at the Flamingo. She confirmed Luxe Life’s recent exclusive that big brother Donny let slip that they will probably be here for at least four years with the option renewals.

“Now I’m really a Vegan,” she continued. “We really love Vegas. We live here in a lovely home in Henderson. The kids go to school here, and the entire family is happy to have made the move. We’re in the community, and we’re here to support and take part in it.“

Marie Osmond's Show To Be Produced From Las Vegas

Program Partners hasn't announced clearances, but is expected to soon

By Paige Albiniak -- Broadcasting & Cable, 11/6/2008 3:47:00 PM

Program Partners has yet to announce any clearances for its new talk show starring Marie Osmond, but the show will be produced from Las Vegas and start shooting next June, she told the Luxe Life blog at VegasDeluxe.com.

According to Osmond, pre-production will begin in June, with first tapings scheduled for August and a September start date.

"It was part of the renegotiation, and we think Vegas audiences will be great for the TV show," Osmond told the blog. "There are lots of things for us to do in Vegas with the show.”

Executives from Program Partners were not available to comment but an announcement on clearances is expected soon.

Osmond, who has been performing for nearly her entire life, was thrust back into the public eye last year via her stint on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. She and her equally famous brother, Donny, have been headlining their own show at the Strip’s Flamingo hotel since September. The pair recently re-upped, and with options the show could run for the next four years.

"The Donny & Marie Show” has been a “nightly phenomenon” since its September start, Osmond told the blog. "We're packed every night -- it's even unbelievable to us. Every night after each show, we'll meet and greet the audience, sign autographs and pose for photos for 30 to 45 minutes. We find some of the fans have traveled from as far away as Australia and England just to come see us. That's amazing to us!”

Osmond Genealogist Retires after more than 30 Years on Television

Clayton Brough, well-known for his “8-14 day” weather forecasts and one of the nation’s few “broadcast climatologists”, will retire from KTVX-ABC4 by the end of November, after spending more than 30 years on television and presenting thousands of weather forecasts.

Brough, who is 58 years old and survived cancer in 2004, says he recently made the decision to retire from television in an effort to “conserve my energy, preserve my health, and spend more time with my wife, children and grandchildren.”

Brough worked at KUTV-2 from 1978 to 1980. In July 1980, he began working full-time at KTVX-ABC4, and since 1986 he’s been Channel 4’s weekend climatologist and weather forecaster. His more than 28 years of weather broadcasting on one television station places him in a unique crowd--as only a few television anchors, weather forecasters or sportscasters have ever enjoyed such a long run on one television station.

Over the past thirty years, Brough has also worked as a full-time public education teacher, consulted and written extensively on Utah’s weather and climate, served as an adjunct university instructor in geography at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, and been president of one of the world’s largest ancestral family history organizations. “After many years of working multiple jobs seven days a week, I’m getting older and slower,” Brough said, “and I want to spend more time with my wife and family, and pursue more family history work.” He says, “I will miss my television family, friends and viewers, and I greatly appreciate their years of support and encouragement; but I’m now putting my broadcasting days behind me, and I plan on spending the next several years teaching weather, climate and geography to my secondary and university students.”

Brough’s last day on KTVX-ABC4 will be Sunday evening, November 23, 2008.

Brough is married to a cousin of the Osmond Family, and he and his wife enjoy doing family geneaology together for both sides of their family.

Marie and daughter Rachael at the Criss Angel Opening

An eclectic mix of stars appeared at the Luxor Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Halloween to take in "Criss Angel: Believe," illusionist Criss Angel's collaboration with Cirque du Soleil. Among the celebs walking the opening night black carpet (yes, black -- this is Criss Angel, after all): Dominic Monaghan and Evangeline Lilly of "Lost," "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul, boxer Mike Tyson, "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris, Wilmer Valderrama ("That '70s Show"), MTV's Tila Tequila, Motley Crue's Vince Neil and Angel's date Holly Madison (a.k.a. Hugh Hefner's ex).

"Believe," which unites "Mindfreak" bad boy with the Canadian theatrical powerhouse behind such family friendly Vegas shows as "O," "The Beatles Love" "Ka" and "Mystere," reportedly cost $100 million and has $5.5 million in advance sales. Backers hope the show will run through 2028.

Donny and Marie return for their 2nd appearance on `Sidewalks`

Brother and sister Donny and Marie Osmond have been performing all their lives. They are both singers, actors, and dancers.

One of their earliest TV appearances was on The Andy Williams Show, where Donny and Marie's older brothers (Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay) were regulars.

As the years progressed, they became successful solo artists: Donny in the rock scene and Marie in the country music world.

Their teamin
g and popularity grew when the Osmond siblings became the youngest primetime hosts of their own variety show called Donny & Marie in the mid '70s. The duo recorded several albums together prior to and while starring in the hit TV series. The two reunited on TV in 1998 in the syndicated Donny & Marie daytime talk show.

In recent years, Donny has been a game show host, a Broadway performer, a TV magazine correspondent (Entertainment Tonight and The Insider) and actor in such movies as "College Road Trip." Marie is a successful doll designer and seller, a weight loss pitchperson, was a contestant on the fifth season of Dancing with the Stars, and is scheduled to be a daytime TV host again in the fall of 2009.

In this 2008 interview with SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes, Donny and Marie talk about their performing style and their new variety show at the Flamingo in Las Vegas.
